Peter Plimmer, President of Big White – About Big Bike Slopestyle 2018    https://www.pinkbike.com/news/destination-showcase-big-white-bc.html

We are more than stoked to see an international event coming up at Big White Bike Park!  BHA has been part of the planning of Big White Bike Park since 2015.  Located at the base of Lara’s Gondola, the Slopestyle Pro Course is one of the most exciting new additions to the bike park amenities for 2018.  Planned to be an event hosting and training facility, the Slopestyle Course is one of the few of its kind in North America, offering an awesome opportunity for the development of Slopestyle Mountain Biking.

So far, 23 riders have confirmed their presences at the Big White Invitational on July 4-7 2018, for more information and the schedule:

BHA has been actively engaged in the master planning process for Big White Ski Resort for the past 15 years.  We have recently been working on a new Master Plan designed to improve the quality of skiing, enhance the base area, expand summer season offerings and improve the overall mountain resort experience.  In preparation for this next stage of development, Big White has plenty of upgrades planned for the 2018 season, including a new fixed-grip quad chair to replace the famous Powder Chair.

Read all about the planned improvements in 2018 here.

Based on the Master Plan developed by BHA in 2015, the Mansfield Ski Club has undertaken a program of upgrades and improvements in recent years. The club’s members and visitors can now enjoy the new Javelin Triple Chairlift and a new terrain park – The Flight Deck.  Both amenities have been a huge success since their implementation, and resulted from a detailed planning exercise led by BHA that also included the expansion of skiable terrain, a grading plan, resort residential development, and all-season considerations.

BHA was pleased to received the official announcement from Sioux City and our colleagues at SEH about the Sioux City Cone Park Grand Opening scheduled for December 19th 2017.

From 2015 to 2016, BHA worked in concert with SEHV&KTorrent Eng and RRC to create the plans for this brand new all-season park located in Sioux City, Iowa.  It is a pleasure to see how the plans came to realities, with a high tech LED lighting system and on-hill music, a modern all-season lodge with a cozy outdoor fire pit overlooking the hill, a refrigerated ice skating rink that will convert into a splash pad in the Summer and of course the tube park, Cone Park is fully ready to receive its first guests!

Great news in Big White! The resort’s employees will soon have new housing available to them. Offering direct connection to the village, skiing facilities and work place, the first building is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in 2018. BHA worked with the Big White team to develop a multi-phase plan which included the site layout and grading, in addition to rezoning and development documentation. The modular construction, the attention to environmental impact and the resort’s active involvement in providing affordable housing to their employees brings this project in line with Big White’s vision and long term sustainability plan. This is a timely development as it comes during a period when the housing situation in BC is of growing concern.

The Cone Park Lodge, a major component of the Sioux City’s All-Season Cone Park Master Plan, is nearing completion and may open for the 2017/2018 winter season.  The Lodge will serve as the hub for the future Cone Park guests ice skating or tubing on the adjacent slopes, offering a warm spot to relax, warm up, and recharge.  The Lodge will also be used as an all-season community hub for events or private functions, such as weddings.

BHA was brought onto the Cone Park Master Plan as the Recreation and Park Planner to provide an assessment of the physical realities of the site, and develop an integrated, well-balanced site plan.  This great project was a collaboration between BHA and the professionals from SEH, V&K, Torrent Eng. and RRC.

The preferred concept linked a lite ice skating rink and tube park, snowboarding and skiing facilities, multi-use trails, and splash pad for summer, with an accessible base and parking area. The completion of the Cone Park Lodge represents the next step towards the realization of the Master Plan for Cone Park.

The Lodge’s progress is showcased in the Sioux City Journal.

Earlier this month the SLRD (Squamish-Lillooet Regional District) selected the BHA team to undertake the Pemberton Valley Trails Master Plan.  We are honored to be able to play a leading role in this exciting planning project that is scheduled to begin in the next weeks.  Looking into one of the key trail areas of the Sea to Sky corridor, the Master Plan will act as a reference document proving a series a tools that will support the sustainability of this trail system and its community.

For a second time, the BHA team will join the delegates of the Mountain Bike Symposium. This year, we will travel to Revelstoke to attend to this vibrant conference.  We are looking forward to tossing some ideas around with some of the bike tourism industry experts.

“THE MTB TOURISM SYMPOSIUM IS A GATHERING OF CREATIVE MINDS WITH A VESTED INTEREST IN ADVANCING THE FUTURE OF MOUNTAIN BIKE TOURISM IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.”
