The project was initiated with a visioning exercise that lead to the goal of developing “an all-season mountain resort that offers a blend of recreational and adventure opportunities” within the context of “celebrating the outdoor environment where the spirit of skiing and mountain play thrive”. A carefully phased development program was designed with this vision. Lift service skiing and backcountry touring are planned as the cornerstone winter activities. Mountain biking, hiking and golf provide the summer focus to Mt Baldy. The mountain plan includes a new day lodge, ski lifts, major terrain expansion, both lift serviced and accessible backcountry, hotel, and development of a new core village, all with an eye to the traditional architectural and cultural themes of the South Okanagan. At buildout, Mt Baldy will effectively have two base areas - the Upper Base and the Village. These two areas will be linked by ski trails, a multi-season trail network and a ‘people-mover’ lift. Infilling the lands between the bases will be a variety of ski to / ski from residential accommodations. |
