BHA, in partnership with the architectural firm HKS Inc., was retained to create a Master Plan for a new all-season mountain resort in the Changbai Mountains of China. The intent of the project was to design a successful world class all-season resort capable of hosting future Winter Olympics.
After initial visits, BHA completed detailed GIS inventory and analyses leading to an understanding of the site’s development opportunities, constraints and unique characteristics. Subsequently, BHA created the concept plan illustrating the site design and placement of facilities to accommodate the base area, circulation, public spaces, lifts alignment as well as winter and summer activities. The winter plan includes the design for ski and snowboard runs and terrain park, backcountry access, ice skating, ski to/ski from resort residential access, tube park and a cross-country ski trail network. The summer plan includes mountain biking trails, hiking trails, three golf courses and horseback riding trails. The master plan aims to create a sustainable resort that integrates the various recreation amenities with the pristine environment of the Changbai Mountains.
